Weddings are a sign of new hope. For many of us who have participated in a wedding, we know the joy and the hope that it is experienced in the ceremony as well as in the party. This hope and joy come out of the expectation that the couple who are joining their lives will be happy, that they have found each other, and that in the course of their life together they will grow and enjoy each other as a couple and as a family. We read in this week's Gospel about the miracle at the wedding in Cana, which is described in the Gospel of John as "the first of his (Jesus') signs". This sign from Jesus at the wedding in Cana presents to us an opportunity of reflection in our reality as a community here at St. Philip's; we are embarking in a new year as well as in a new stage in our lives as we prepare to celebrate our 50th Anniversary. The reflection that I would like for us to focus on is that in the midst of our journey, we might feel that we are running out of something that can help our celebration and the joy of what it means to be committed to one another, and the only one that can provide us with that missing component is God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We need to be willing to give of what we have and'-have it blessed for it to be transformed not only to something useful but into the best. God has provided and will continue providing, what we need is to give of what we have. Silito Take a look at some of the previous messages from the Rector |
