The celebration has begun! Yes, we have officially initiated the celebration of our 50th anniversary. Today, with an all Parish Eucharist and using the 1928 Prayer Book, we are celebrating what comes to mark the beginning towards the completion of 50 years of mission and ministry in this parish. As the second Rector of St. Philip's, but mostly as a minister among many that have journeyed with us, I give thanks to God for this place, the opportunities, the blessings, the joys, the challenges, the learning and mostly for the sharing with so many people on that journey. On this first gathering to celebrate, I hope and pray that we can acknowledge the richness of our history and also the richness in the newness of our time. We will experience a liturgy full of that history with components of our time. It is a great venue for us to truly celebrate how God has been manifested and continues to be manifested in a very incarnate way in the life of this parish and in each one of us. Let us look forward as we honor and celebrate our past. We are the people of God's call to be His presence in this place and time; let us live with and in this knowledge and let us make of this celebration not only something of the past and present but another milestone to build for the future.
