I would like to begin my reflection by sharing a short story that I hope will provide an opportunity to reflect on our view of who God is. A woman once went into the marketplace, looked around, and saw a sign that read, "God's Fruit Stand." "Thank goodness! It's about time!" the woman said to herself. She went inside and she said, "I would like a perfect banana, a perfect cantaloupe, a perfect strawberry, and a perfect peach." God, who was behind the counter, shrugged and said, "I'm sorry, I only sell seeds." Our expectation, just as the woman in the story, is that we are looking for something finished or a completed project, but that is a mistake. We need to see that God is not about perfection, and creation is far from being complete. There is a slogan that we have seen on t-shirts, bumper stickers and other places that reads "Be Patient! God isn't finished with me yet!" I have always thought that this saying was not only a good one, but one that actually holds true, for it means that life is not limited by what we have accomplished or by the illusions of success. I pray that during this week we will work into entering into the Spirit of Trinity rather than to attempt to get caught in a defense of the "doctrine" of Trinity. Let us begin with the knowledge that "God's love has been poured into our hearts." In God's eternal love, our incomplete nature is finally bound up in the very life of God, "as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever.
