We are bound by many rules and laws; these rules and laws have a purpose, to help and lead us into a life that has order and control. The problem that we run into most of the time with the rules and laws is that we find them impractical, not realistic, unfair, illogical or even outright crazy. I'm sure that as you read this you can think of at least one rule or law that is crazy. Today we are presented with an action of Jesus that is rebuked by a leader of the synagogue because his action went against one of the Jewish laws, and Jesus' response addressed it by pointing out that when it comes to following the law, there is a need to see the practicality and functionality of it; also that the following of the law or not is not about how convenient it is. We are called to pay attention to the needs that surround us. We are called to respond to these needs not by first looking at what is practical or convenient to us; we need to face the need by providing what we must and can with the principal that it is the right thing to do.
